Another senior staff member is leaving Blizzard, Bloomberg wrote in an article (writing is paid, but PC Gamer, for example, also summed it up). Overwatch producer Chacko Sonny will be leaving the studio this Friday.
Sonny’s departure was announced in an email distributed within the studio, also received by Bloomberg co-worker Jason Schreier. In this, Blizzard’s newly appointed lead partners, Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra, described Sonny as an “attentive leader.” And he wrote in the letter that it was an honor to work for Blizzard and that it was one of the best experiences of his career.
Several prominent developers have recently left Blizzard due to a harassment scandal that erupted over the summer. At the same time, Bloomberg was confirmed by several internal sources that Sonny was not subject to such accusations and that he was a respected figure within the studio. A Blizzard spokesman confirmed the news to PC Gamer and added that the producer is leaving to “take some leave after five years of service.”
A spokesman for the company also said they were “doing great” with Overwatch 2 and were already in the final stages of development with the game. OW2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but they’ll talk more about it during the Overwatch League final on September 25th.
