Reactions from Twitter on Marvel’s First Martial Arts Movie

Did Kevin Feiges do it again?

As it stands, Marvel’s latest feature-length film, Shang-Chi and The Ten Rings, directed by Daniel Cretton (Transition Station), will premiere at home on September 2nd. And the blockbuster promises to be special not only because the title character (played by Simu Liu) will be the first Far Eastern superhero in the cinematic universe but also because, based on the trailers so far, it will draw heavily from the fuchsia genre. According to the script, Shang-Chi’s father, the head of the assassin organization Ten Rings – and the real Mandarin – gave his son a thorough martial arts training, but growing up, he wants to leave the organization behind to lead a normal, calm life in San Francisco – but of course, that doesn’t work out for him.

Although the above does not guarantee, of course, that Kevin Feige managed to put together a memorable movie again, the first reviews are overwhelmingly positive, to say the other words. Scroll down to see what we’re talking about:

“Shang-Chi has the perfect balance of heart, action and fun! And when I say action, I mean it’s a real stop-and-drop action! And Simu Liu is going to throw a lot at MCU,” the Illuminerdi journalist said.

“I really liked Shang-Chi! Many things have been left out of the trailers, and it has its own atmosphere, which, together with the elements specific to it, helps make the result feel more like a new origin story. And Simu Liu is a fantastic hero. However, I wasn’t entirely at ease with the film’s pace – at times, I felt a bit like the cinema was stopping and then restarting, and there were slower parts. But the blockbuster has its positives, and it ends very memorably,” tweeted Eric Goldman, editor-in-chief of Fandom.

“The legend of Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings is PHENOMENAL. Believe the hype. Each action scene is better than the one before it. Simu Liu has taken full ownership of marvel’s superhero role. Beautiful settings. It’s an amazing soundtrack. Trust me, you’re going to want to see this on the biggest screen possible,” said Wendy Lee Szany of the Hollywood Critics Association.

“Legend of Shang-Chi and Ten Rings is the best superhero movie of 2021 to date. The action scenes are mind-blowing, especially the two that take place on a train and a skyscraper. It’s the best martial arts movie I’ve had the pleasure of making in a long time. Simu Liu and Awkwafina are brilliant in their roles,” said Scott Menzel, founder of We Live Entertainment.

“Shang-Chi doesn’t look like any Marvel movie ever. I loved that he opened the door to a whole new world, and I can’t wait to see more of it. Simu Liu is the perfect choice for his role. I saw it in IMAX, and believe me, that’s how you want to experience this experience; the sound and image were perfect,” collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub said in a statement.

“Okay, Shang-Chi is part Shakespeare family tragedy, part epic mythological cinema, part martial arts masterpiece. It’s terrific. I really didn’t think it would work so well. Watch both post-credits scenes. I can’t believe how much I loved this movie,” John Campea told his followers.

“Shang-Chi is fantastic. It’s full of INCREDIBLE, beautifully choreographed fight scenes and gutsy babes. If you don’t know Simu Liu’s name yet, be prepared for that to change soon. Marvel has a winning card in its hands again,” movie critic Kirsten Acuna tweeted.
