The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI is breaking down — and users are starting to feel the impact

It seems that Microsoft and OpenAI are starting to drift apart, as the Redmond software giant has now integrated Anthropic’s AI into its Office 365 programs.
The move had been rumored for weeks, but there was no official confirmation from Microsoft—until now. The company has announced that Anthropic’s tool, Claude, is available for beta testers in Microsoft 365 Copilot. Specifically, it will power the tool’s research and agent functions, while the core Copilot remains powered by OpenAI’s GPT-5 model.
Based on the video above, Claude is currently optional rather than the default. You can enable it by clicking the “Try Claude” button in the upper-right corner. Moreover, according to Microsoft, more Claude models may be integrated into the company’s services in the future, as highlighted by Engadget.
The Verge notes that Anthropic’s AI models run on Amazon’s cloud service, which is Microsoft Azure’s main rival.
The strain in the alliance between Microsoft and OpenAI is further underscored by the fact that OpenAI recently announced an investment of $90-91 billion USD from Nvidia.
