Google releases the Pixel 3 and 3XL models
We can provide sad news for owners of Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL devices. The software update on smartphones will soon be discontinued entirely. The two devices debuted in October 2018, and then the search giant promised them three years of support, which is now over.
Although the Google Pixel 3 devices received the latest Android 12 operating system, the November security patch no longer reached them. The bazaar is permanently closed. Fortunately, there is also good news, as Google will provide one last update sometime in the first quarter of next year. Many bug fixes will be available in this, among many others.
Next up in line are the Pixel 3a and 3a XL models, which are guaranteed to receive security updates until May 2022. The focus is on the term “guaranteed,” the pair will probably still get one last update later in the day after the previous update in May.
Only those who have Pixel 6 and 6 Pro devices can be calm, the guaranteed significant version update is valid until October 2024, and they will receive security fixes even in October 2026.
Incidentally, the date of a mobile’s debut always refers to when it became available in the U.S. in the Google Store there. Unfortunately, starting somewhere later doesn’t extend the support period.
