MSI Prestige 15 A12UD-049ES – Review

The MSI Prestige 15 A12UD-049ES, an ultra-slim laptop focused on productivity and business duties with the newest connectivity, is the subject of our most recent review.

Its 4K panel built into a fragile body, with a Core i7-1280P with hybrid architecture and the support of an RTX 3050 Ti for multimedia tasks or those requiring a modest amount of graphics acceleration, is one of its key selling points.

Design and Ports

The vivid designs found in MSI’s gaming line are absent from its Prestige series. This MSI Prestige 15 A12UD-049ES is intended for a very different demographic and calls for a much more covert design because it is targeted at professionals and workplaces.

At this time, the MSI emblem is subtly positioned in the same grey tone as the metal finish. In the hands, you can see a high-quality, resilient finish free of gaps.

A microSD card reader and two USB-A 3.1 (3.2 gen 2) connectors are located on the right side of the device to offer physical connectivity. Since its profile is pretty detailed and would be considered an Ultrabook, there aren’t many connectors or an RJ45 port in this region.

On the other side, there are two Thunderbolt 4.0-enabled USB-C type 4 ports with DisplayPort output, power delivery (one of them also charges the laptop), and power delivery. A minijack audio connector with microphone input and output is found next to it, along with an HDMI.

On each side of the rear are two air vents. Below the straight finish that creates the screen, all of that fringe is embellished with several protrusions.

Although it has a relatively slim profile, the screen is not fragile; in fact, the screen shell is somewhat thinner than the thickness of the device, giving it higher resistance.

The top centre of the keyboard includes a White LED backlighting that can be adjusted in three settings. Although their travel is relatively limited, the keys are a good size and lack a number pad. The trackpad is centred on the case and is a suitable size.

A tiny fingerprint sensor for logging into Windows 11 emerges in that trackpad’s upper left corner. Its operation is excellent, and it quickly and accurately identifies fingerprints.

Despite having a 16:9 format, the screen’s lowered margins make it so that the lower frame doesn’t stick out excessively. A 16:10 screen might have made better use of the available room.

In any event, the MSI Prestige 15 A12UD-049ES is a laptop with excellent productivity and without sacrificing, as we will see later, more than solvent performance, especially CPU, because of its relatively small size and weight of just 1.69 kg.

Screen

A 15.6-inch, 16:9, 4K screen with the Prestige 15’s resolution is included. Although, at a 1:1 scale, the interfaces appear too small, and you must rescale them, this resolution enables you to make the most of the screen by giving you more workspace. In any event, it’s noteworthy for the sharpness it provides.

We continue to use a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Higher response times are typically linked with gaming hardware. Still, the reality is that the smoothness provided by a screen running at 120 Hz or higher on the desktop or with traditional programmes is something that this team lacks.

It has a maximum brightness of 350 nits and the lowest brightness in black of 0.49, giving us a slightly subpar contrast of 713.5:1.

The DCI-P3 gamut is not covered entirely since colour coverage is concentrated on reaching the full Adobe-RGB and sRGB gamuts. If we take the average of the three coverages, we remain somewhat over the average of our ranking. Still, we must not lose sight of the fact that this Adobe-RGB coverage may be helpful if content development or modification is necessary for your print.

Conclusion

Its three primary cornerstones are the MSI Prestige 15 A12UD-049ES’s thickness and contained weights, its 4K screen, and the excellent performance delivered by the Core i7-1280P.

The cost of combining all these factors is that we get pretty high temperatures and a lot of noise while cooling them as unintended consequences of adding a contained size and the high CPU performance. To obtain more content, we can always change the performance and fans among the several modes supported by MSI. Considering the RTX 3050 Ti’s small 40 W graphics card, its price is slightly high.

It’s also important to note the Prestige 15’s connectivity. There are no USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connectors; the “slowest” of the two USB-A 3.1 ports is 10 Gbps, while Thunderbolt 4.0 allows for up to 40 Gbps with the USB-C connections. WiFi 6E, BT 5.20, and even a tiny MicroUSB card reader are added. A thin, light, and powerful laptop with cutting-edge networking will appeal to those who require a computer of this kind to operate remotely.
