Some essential elements of a Snapdragon 898-powered smartphone are revealed in a photo
For the time being, we don’t know what Qualcomm’s next high-end chip will be called; most rumors point to the Snapdragon 898 referring to the SM8450, but the Snapdragon 895 has also been discussed.
If all goes well, the successor to the Snapdragon 888 will be presented in December, and until then, a slew of speculations and leaks concerning the chipset will surface. For example, a device with this chip in its soul has been photographed, and the snapshot confirms some preliminary information.
A photo of a Snapdragon 898 smartphone wouldn’t tell much, but this unknown device was recently photographed with an app named Device Info HW on the screen, which shows some chipset statistics. Based on the Cortex-X2, the central core runs at 3.0 GHz, with three Cortex-A710-based, 2.5 GHz CPUs and four energy-saving Cortex-A510 cores running at 1.79 GHz. These figures match earlier leaks, indicating that the tip masters aren’t only talking to themselves.
It’s unclear how much the Adreno 730 GPU will boost performance. Still, on the one hand, architectural enhancements will be made, and on the other hand, Samsung’s 4-nanometer manufacturing method will help accelerate the process. According to speculations, the new Adreno 660 will have a 20% boost over the existing Adreno 660.
Despite the lack of information in this image, the chipset has an X65 5G modem with a theoretical download speed of 10 Gbps.
The only question is what kind of device is visible in the image. It may be a Qualcomm test gadget that will never see the light of day – though they aren’t lovely – or the Vivo smartphone that was recently tested and powered by this chip. Some speculate that the smartphone in the image is a prototype for the Xiaomi 12.
