Razer Introduces New Line of Blade Laptops

CES 2022. Razer has unveiled its new line of Razer Blade laptops in Las Vegas. They are three high-end models with different screen sizes to meet the needs of gamers or creators and with the potential to replace desktop computers as a single machine.

As expected, Razer puts all the meat on the grill in a gaming laptop segment where good equipment abounds, and the big manufacturers in part such as ASUS, MSI, or Alienware take special care. For the occasion, the new Razer Blades incorporate the latest Intel and AMD processors for laptops; new mobile graphics from NVIDIA; high definition displays; advanced connectivity; new standards such as DDR5 memory; Windows 11 as standard and chassis that add attractiveness and quality as is the brand’s standard.

    Razer Blade 14

‘Small, but tough’ is one of the industry’s highest-powered gaming ultraportables and will continue to do so with the manufacturer’s arsenal. Razer continues to trust AMD and mounts the new Ryzen 6000 processors presented at CES and specifically the Ryzen 9 6900HX with eight cores, 16 threads, a maximum frequency of 4.9 GHz, and 20 Mbytes of cache.

For the graphics section, although the CPU includes a Radeon 680M for primary uses, Razer bets on the new graphics up to the RTX 3080 Ti with 16 Gbytes of GDDR6 memory, the most powerful that can be mounted on a laptop and with the arsenal of technologies of NVIDIA: the fourth generation of Max-Q technology, CPU Optimizer, Rapid Core Scaling and Battery Boost 2.0. 16 Gbytes of DDR5 memory and PCI Gen4 solid-state drives up to 2 Tbytes complete the internal hardware section

The screen is the well-known 14-inch IPS, with optional panels such as an FHD with a 144 Hz refresh rate or a 2K with a 165 Hz refresh rate and support for 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Both panels are individually calibrated at the factory and support AMD FreeSync Premium Image Synchronization Technology.

It has two USB 3.2 Type-A ports and two other Type C ports, one of them for charging the 62 WHr battery and Display Port 1.4 support. It also has HDMI output and a Kensington lock slot. There is no shortage of the latest connectivity elements such as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, FHD webcam with Windows Hello support, stereo speakers, and THX support.

    Razer Blade 15

The intermediate model of the series mounts a 15.6-inch IPS screen with panels to choose between a 360 Hz refresh rate FHD or a 240 Hz QHD. They have a matte coating, bezels of only 4.9 on the sides, support for 100% of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, respectively. They support G-SYNC synchronization technology and feature Optimus mode for switching between integrated and dedicated graphics.

Its processor is also a premiere, the 12th generation of the Alder Lake for laptops presented by Intel in Las Vegas and specifically a Core i7-12800H with 14 cores, complemented by 16 Gbytes of DDR5 memory and dual PCI Gen4 solid-state drives. Like the other models, it equips dedicated graphics series RTX 30 from NVIDIA.

As for connectivity, it mounts a Killer network card for Wi-Fi 6E, in addition to Bluetooth 5.2, FHD webcam with Windows Hello support, stereo speakers, and THX support. There is no lack of a good number of ports, three USB 3.2 Type-A, and another Type C, in addition to Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, and another to power an 80 WHr battery.

    Razer Blade 17

The largest in size of the series, it is perfectly prepared to replace a desktop with its massive 17.3-inch screen, with panels to choose between a 360 Hz refresh rate FHD and two 165 or 240 Hz QHDs update frequencies.

Its processor is a Core i7-12800H with 14 cores from Intel’s twelfth generation Core, accompanied by 16 Gbytes of 4800 MHz DDR5 memory and 4 Tbyte PCI Gen4 solid-state drives. The graphics section equips up to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, one of the new dedicated graphics for laptops presented by NVIDIA at the Las Vegas fair.

Its size allows it to mount a large number of ports, three USB 3.2 Type-A and another two Type C with support for Thunderbolt 4, in addition to HDMI 2.1, memory card reader, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and Ethernet LAN 2.5 Gb To highlight the eight speakers that it installs, a record that should come in handy in the multimedia and games section.

Razer Blade 2022, price and availability

The new Razer Blades are uniquely designed from a CNC milled aluminum chassis. Its keyboard has been redesigned with slightly larger keys, making the typing experience more ergonomic than ever. This revised design includes state-of-the-art speakers, a hinge design with a slimmer profile, and extra ventilation with rubber feet to create the best vents.

They pre-install Windows 11 as standard and its functions such as DirectStorage, Xbox GameBar, and Xbox Game Pass. The keyboards on these 3 Razer Blade models feature Razer Chroma RGB technology, immersive audio with a 360º soundscape when listening to movies, music, or video games, with THX-certified THX Spatial Audio through any analog headset or the speakers.

  • 5 Softwares you shouldn’t have on Windows

5 Softwares you shouldn’t have on Windows

Many technology transitions have led to replacements and discontinuations (for example, the transition from Flash to HTML5). Consequently, it is not unusual to find versions of programs or applications in Windows that are not updated and therefore should not be installed.

Having programs and applications without updating or maintenance is a security risk, especially in a Windows operating system, where users use an administrator account by default. This is a bad habit established by Microsoft and that the company has not rectified for various reasons. Still, it is seen and proven that it is an actual highway that facilitates the exploitation of vulnerabilities.

Despite this, using a standard user account should not be an excuse to neglect those programs or applications that have not been updated for a long time, either because the user does not need them or because they have run out of support. In any case, it is advisable to carry out the pertinent uninstallation processes, so we will indicate the steps to do it in Windows.

We will mention discontinued technologies that it would be better to uninstall as soon as possible. We take the opportunity to expose other things that it would be advisable not to use even if they still have support.

    1. Adobe Flash Player

It must be said, Flash was at the time a necessary evil, primarily to provide the web with multimedia functions that it lacked until the appearance of HTML5. This also encompassed many gaming websites, of which there are possibly still a few that have not migrated to more modern and supported technologies.

The reason why Flash was considered a necessary evil is based on two grounds:

    • First, because it was a proprietary technology, it was difficult for third parties to supervise it and its portability to other platforms.
    • Second, because it has starred in countless security scandals, many consider it unsafe technology.

If to the two previous points we add that it is currently discontinued (at least for the West), there is no need for more reasons to uninstall Flash if it is installed on the computer (and not only Windows but also Linux and macOS).

    2. QuickTime

QuickTime is a multimedia playback framework developed by Apple that has its player. The story here is not much different from the Flash, although without so many murky episodes surrounding the security it offered.

However, Trend Micro discovered two severe security flaws in April 2016 that led to the recommendation to uninstall QuickTime for Windows, as Apple discontinued development three months earlier. This meant that the vulnerabilities would remain forever, exploitable both through locally stored files and the plugins that existed for web browsers.

Since Windows 10 is the most used version and appeared in 2015, it isn’t easy to find a computer with QuickTime installed. Still, if it does, we recommend its immediate uninstallation.

To play video files in QuickTime format, which used to use the ‘.mov’ extension, it is recommended to use VLC, a multimedia player of proven quality and powerful multiplatform support.

    3. CCleaner

CCleaner is a cleaning application that you should not use, and therefore, should not have installed in Windows.

CCleaner has been accused of breaking Windows installations on many occasions, but if the gossip doesn’t convince you, maybe it will because Microsoft decided in 2019 to put the application on its blacklist. If the company responsible for Windows makes a similar move, you should not have CCleaner installed on your PC.

The reasons put forward by the Redmond giant were the various problems that CCleaner had during the second half of the past decade. To begin with, we have the discovery of backdoors in 2017 that compromised multiple versions of the application and opened a remote administration backdoor that was used to install malware, keyloggers, ransomware, and take control of computers.

Second is Avast’s acquisition of Piriform, developer of CCleaner. The change of hands did not sit well with the cleaning application, which introduced persistent and annoying advertisements that would reappear even if its cookies were deleted. This was added to the compatibility problems that at least at the time it had with Windows 10.

An application that has fallen out of favor and on top of it can break the system. What are more reasons needed to uninstall it?

    4. Microsoft Silverlight

At the time, it was defined as “Microsoft’s Flash” since it was created to build and run rich Internet applications. It was conceived for use in other less technical words through a web browser.

Although Silverlight never reached the diffusion and popularity of Flash, it did get used by services such as Netflix, which required it in case of wanting to reproduce content through a web browser.

Like Flash, Silverlight was and still is proprietary software, so third parties could not freely audit it, and its support across multiple platforms was limited, so much so that it never made it to Linux.

Fortunately, the consolidation of HTML5 invited streaming content platforms to offer at least multi-technology support that was not limited to Microsoft’s Silverlight and other similar solutions. However, the transition of these services to HTML5 has indeed had a very high price as they have forced the consolidation of DRM, which is served through WideVine.

The situation derived from the consolidation of DRM in HTML5 is far from ideal in terms of freedom for users. Still, at least Linux users no longer have to resort to Windows to enjoy the content offered by various platforms.

Apart from being deprecated by the push of HTML5, Silverlight was officially discontinued by Microsoft in October 2021, so you already have two compelling reasons to uninstall it as soon as possible.

    5. µTorrent (the uTorrent)

The case of μTorrent is, by far, the most scandalous that we will discuss in this article, mainly because it continues to have so many users, so many, that it will likely continue to be the most used BitTorrent client today.

μTorrent became very popular thanks to its minimalist interface and low resource usage. It started as an open-source project, but it became proprietary software after being acquired by BitTorrent, Inc., now Rainberry, Inc.

That a BitTorrent client under the company’s umbrella responsible for developing the P2P file-sharing protocol should be a powerful signal to place trust, but nothing is further from reality since μTorrent has been involved in various scandals during the past decade.

More specifically, those responsible for μTorrent have been caught mining Bitcoins without users’ permission. It has spread malware through an advertisement, and a bug was discovered that allowed them to control a computer remotely and steal downloads. Above, one has to go through the checkout to eliminate the advertising present in the application.

In short, μTorrent is a proprietary application and maliciously managed by its managers, so it is recommended to uninstall it and replace it with free software such as qBittorrent or Transmission client.

    Hardware manufacturers’ bloatware

This is an old story, especially for Windows laptops, which usually come up with the manufacturer’s garbage. This garbage, commonly called bloatware, usually contributes little to nothing to users, so in the end, it mainly serves to use up disk space uselessly and increase the attack surface that malicious actors can exploit.

The presence of bloatware ends up making more than one. When buying a computer, decide to reinstall the system and put one clean not to drag unnecessary things.

Conclusion: Remember to check well what you have on your computer from time to time (even if you do not use Windows)

The pace of life we lead and the high automation offered by modern operating systems can make us forget to check from time to time what we have installed in the operating system and some applications such as web browsers.

As we have already said several times, it would not only be advisable to eliminate discontinued, suspicious components of doubtful or unknown origin, but also any application or add-on that is not going to be used again to minimize the attack surface (obviously, one does not go to uninstall an application that uses tiny, but uses it and will continue to use it).

  • These are the best games of 2021 according to Fbhtechinfo

These are the best games of 2021 according to Fbhtechinfo

More of our end-of-year specials with a change of course towards content, increasingly present in everything we publish due to the importance they have acquired in recent times. We also do it with the queen category in this technological field: games. And it is that one thing is that you do not have much time to play and another that you do not like to play. We all want to play, and the MC team is no exception!

So, we are going with the best games of 2021, according to MC. Here is the key, because as with the rest of the specials that we have published so far, it is not about choosing the best of the year as such, but about recommending those that we liked the most. We must also bear in mind that we have not tested all the hardware that has come out this year, nor have we done it with the software, and this also applies to games.

Best games of 2021 according to Fbhtechinfo

We return to the standard requirements in this type of compilation article with this particular. Although it is evident that we have not tasted everything that has come out, we limit the selection to the titles that we have liked the most out of everything that has come out this year. Yes, regardless of the platform they were released for, which may alter what you will see next a bit. Here is our list of the best games of 2021.

    1. Forza Horizon 5

It is not easy for a title in the racing simulator genre to be massively acclaimed by critics and the public. In our opinion, the fifth installment of Forza Horizon (twelfth in the main saga) has achieved this, becoming the best Xbox Game Studios launch to date due to the sales data that has come so far.

The improvement of the visual section has been overwhelming by the hand of the Playground Games studio and the lighting, the effects of dust, the smoke from the tires, looks like never before, just like the cars themselves and their components (it is the first of the franchise that supports ray tracing). At the same time, the different weather effects are visually appealing and affect the way you drive, changing from week to week so they can be re-enjoyed at new events.

The garage is almost oversized as the maps because it has 500 vehicles—many acquaintances from previous titles, others new and personalized and with higher resolution. The Xbox looks excellent in 4K / 30FPS quality mode, but it is the PC (if you have a good team) where it unfolds its full potential.

There are various game modes, from the primary campaign to improved multiplayer and accessible exploration of the open world. As a novelty, the ‘Horizon Arcade’ has been incorporated that adds a series of multiplayer minigames scattered throughout the map that you can play as a team. . It also has the ‘EventLab,’ a set of tools that are offered as a content creation suite where the player can create personalized games or races that they can try with their friends.

Bigger and better in all its sections, it is an excellent evolution of this saga born as a spin-off of Forza Motorsport but has achieved its rightful place. Forza Horizon 5 is available for Windows PC (included in Game Pass and on Steam) and on Microsoft consoles, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Series S. Highly recommended: one of the best games of 2021.

    • Genre: Simulators, racing
    • Platform: PC (Windows), Xbox

    2. Diablo II Resurrected

It was one of the games that I looked forward to most, so I can tell you that this choice has been very personal, and I fully understand that more than one disagrees with me.

I still remember the first time I played the original Diablo II. It was on a modest 133MHz Pentium with 32MB of RAM and a 4MB S3 Virge 3D. The game was prolonged, but I could play it a little in its first zones with normal difficulty despite the jerks it gave, and I ended up wanting to update the PC to play it properly. When I finally had the hardware, I needed an optimal experience, and I spent many years on it.

Time is not wasted. Diablo II did not include age, graphically, not well at all, and I ended up getting tired, although the game always remained in my memory as one of the best in all history. When Blizzard announced Diablo II Resurrected and showed off its graphic finish, it was love at first sight.

I bought it as soon as it hit the market, and I have enjoyed it like a little kid. It preserves the magic of the original intact, and it has simply impressive technical craftsmanship. Essential if you liked the original, and highly recommended if you want the genre.

    • Genre: ARPG
    • Platform: PC (Windows), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox

    3. Huntdown

Huntdown is nothing revolutionary but rather an ancient and well-executed formula. To be more precise, this is the typical side-scrolling action game with platforms that was quite common in the 80s and the first half of the 90s of the 20th century.

The impetus of the developers to embody that spirit of the games of the past has resulted in a title that hooks after a few minutes and has a multiplayer that works locally. This comes at a time when split-screen or shared-screen multiplayer sounds like a novelty compared to the standard, which is online gaming. But yes, 20 years ago and more online was in its infancy, and the usual thing was to gather one or more friends in a house to play some games.

The setting is very successful in the aesthetic finish, the characters, and the music. In fact, in this sense, it is pretty reminiscent of the dystopian films of the 80s of the last century. However, the characterization is so exaggerated that it provokes inevitable laughter, which designers and developers have deliberately sought.

Huntdown will be a throwback (but with heavier graphics), while youngsters may see it as an exciting discovery.

    • Genre: Arcade, Action
    • Platform: PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One

    4. Metro Exodus

Yes, I know what you are thinking: what is Metro Exodus doing in an article called “the best games of 2021”? Because not even for the according to MC has a place, a priori. Afterward, it all depends on where you play, as not all platforms move at the same pace. Thus, some titles come later to some than others, and if you are in the latter, it is news for you.

If you like single-player FPS, set in a setting as enjoyable as post-apocalyptic underground Russia that this raises, with touches of terror on the one hand and stealth on the other, the Metro saga is magnificent. Metro Exodus is a beautiful continuation in which you will continue to put yourself in the shoes of Artyom’s unconscious. There is a sequel underway, even though it could have remained in a trilogy.

    • Genre: Action (FPS)
    • Platform: PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PlayStation, Xbox

    5. Halo Infinite

The last chapter of the Master Chief has been slow to arrive and has left us some scares along the way (like that trailer with a painful memory and more delay than expected), but, finally, 343 Industries has lived up to expectations was not a little bit.

Halo Infinite is everything we fans of the series have hoped for and, in addition, a fantastic gateway for those who have jumped on the bandwagon in the new generation. With exquisite gunplay (for my taste, only surpassed by the magicians of Bungie and their Destiny 2 ), this is the delivery that the saga needed and a whole compendium of good ideas that do not detract from a classic.

Solid technically, with an AI far superior to that of the competition, a fantastic campaign, and a multiplayer that significantly lengthens the life of the title, for me, Halo Infinite is one of the first reasons to jump now to the next-gen, in this case, from the hand of Microsoft.

    • Genre: Action
    • Platform: PC (Windows), Xbox

    6. Psychonauts 2

Being the sequel to a cult game can be a great advantage since you start from a very privileged position. People who enjoyed the original title will welcome the sequel with open arms. But, on the other hand, they will also do it with enormous expectations, because what can be expected is that the new title is, at least, as good as the original. However, experience has taught us that these expectations are rarely met.

Although Schafer has always been known for his adventure games, this game is further proof that his talents are not limited to a specific genre. Quite the contrary, he once again shows that he is capable of adapting to the different mechanics of the genres, taking the best of each one and delivering games that are not only exceptionally fun but also with a stamp so so personal that any connoisseur of his work you would be able to identify your logo in a game even without knowing that it is yours.

    • Genre: Adventure, Platformer
    • Platform: PC (Windows), PlayStation, Xbox

    7. Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker

For years, I have always been a fan of this role-playing saga from Square Enix, and although its first online installment did not convince me, I must admit that it is a great weakness for MMOs. So, years ago, I started my adventure in Final Fantasy XIV, just after entering its version 2.0.

It is a game far from over, having already promised its developers new content until at least 2024, with the promise of continuing even more if the player base allows it. Although the fact that the game’s growing popularity has no end, having even caused Square Enix to have to limit access to the purchase of the game for a while to stabilize its servers, it indeed predicts a bright future.

    • Genre: MMORPG, Fantasy
    • Platform: PC (Windows), PlayStation

    8. FIFA 22

Although some may not believe it, the new installment of the video game based on the “beautiful sport” was once again the best-selling game in Spain. Does so much change from year to year to maintain these vast sales figures? Surely not, but undoubtedly FIFA continues to possess an excellent appeal for players who do not miss out on new versions while attracting new ones.

In summary, say that FIFA 22 evolves in gameplay, with a slower pace of play, more reliable goalkeepers, and the new animations included with HyperMotion give the game more realism. It highlights the variety of game modes that allow you to enjoy it as you like and still have no competition in licenses. We also see the new FUT competition system as positive, although we still do not like the micro-payment design that distorts the competition.

    • Genre: Simulator, sports
    • Platform: PC (Windows), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox

    Audio and video

What were the periods when your TV was the best, but now that it’s been 5 or 6 years, the Smart TV features are failing? The video in the app is on-demand and does not update or run slowly. An Amazon Fire TV Stick can help with this. You can choose various models and prices, ranging from the most basic to the most powerful with Wi-Fi 6. The standard version in the middle is perfect for 1080p screens because it lets you manage the TV with the same remote.

You may also provide wireless headphones as a gift, so they don’t bother you when putting the series on maximum volume. You can get them in two variants, and if your TV is old, you can use headphones with a receiver to connect to the TV’s audio output, such as these Sony headphones for a great price.

If the TV is new and has a Bluetooth connection, on the other hand, you can go for something smaller and more modern. For series marathons, the LG FN6 Tones offer UVNano disinfection technology and a battery life of up to 6 hours. We can get Gaming headphones at a reasonable price. The Logitech G332 has been reduced to 32 dollars, is compatible with both PCs and consoles, and has excellent reviews. The HyperX Cloud Flight is an outstanding value for money option if you want something wireless.

    Video Games and Consoles

You may find it strange that you don’t already own one, but you may get a Nintendo Switch for your kid, grandson, or nephew. It’s a versatile console with a wide range of games, many of which are inexpensive. The most recent model with an OLED screen is available for $396 but acts quickly. This Christmas, it will be in high demand. You can take the Nintendo Switch Lite if you use it in portable mode, albeit it is tough to find.

You could also acquire a PS5 or an Xbox, but both are now unavailable. If you already know what a rat boy is, you can get him the latest Fifa 22 for PS4 or Xbox One and a Nintendo Switch edition.

However, if you want to play with your family, Nintendo has released Mario Party Superstar, allowing you to play online with other users who have the same game. It’s a board game in which you compete in various mini-games.

    PC & Laptop Components

You can give away a desktop or laptop PC component. Games and programs, as well as operating systems, are using more storage space at the moment. As a result, they require a short distance. You might select an excellent M.2 NVMe SSD drive for your desktop or laptop PC. You can get this Kingston 1TB for a reasonable price, and it supports NVMe 1.3 and PCI Express 3.0. You can get a speedier drive like this Western Digital SN850 if you’re going to use it to extend the storage of a PS5 or a newer PC or laptop.

Even if you install a new graphic, increasing the power supply power is still recommended, and this set is a great present. Use our power supply calculator and the components to get the recommended watts. Seasonic sources are one of the greatest brands, and you can get them in a variety of powers and with various forms of 80 PLUS certification.

    [ads1]

We have a review of one of the most influential models from Be Quiet power supply. You’ll love disassembling and reassembling your PC with a power supply, and you’ll be able to clean it up in the process.

    Peripherals and Accessories

You might be seeking a fantastic gaming monitor, and with this Samsung Odyssey G9, you can provide joy to anybody you present it to. You may also go for something smaller and less expensive, and VS Gamers has a wide selection of Ozone monitors at a great price with free shipping.

Who wouldn’t want to swap out their mouse? No, if you just got it, but if it has already served its purpose, you can choose a new one to give away or keep. The Logitech G502, which is always stylish, is a solid option with a low price. You can also go for a wireless device like the Razer Basilisk V3, which has the highest Fbhtechinfo mouse score.

It also doesn’t hurt to have a suitable keyboard. Corsair offers excellent mechanical keyboards with genuine Cherry switches, but they come at a premium. The Corsair K95 is the complete series featuring Cherry MX Speed mechanical switches. Alternatively, you can go for something more affordable and comprehensive, such as this Corsair package, which includes a keyboard, mouse, headphones with microphone, and a mouse pad, all for $101.

    Mobile phones

A new phone, of course, is a great present. You can choose from a wide range of pricing for this present. There are phones for all budgets, and we discuss size and price. The POCO X3 Pro, the best-selling phone on Black Friday, is a low-cost phone with great features. It costs 293 dollars in its variant with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is also more expensive than this POCO but has superior functionality. It has a MediaTek 1200 processor, triple back camera, 65 W Warp load and 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage.

The Realme GT has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a 120 Hz AMOLED screen, a 65 W load, and a triple back camera. Amazon has a version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for $542.

    [ads2]

You may even go all out by purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung’s folding screen phone that takes up very little room. For slightly over 1,231 dollars, you can buy it with a 25 W Wireless charger.

Gifts for less than 33 dollars

If you need to offer a gift, we have easy, quick ideas that everyone enjoys at a low cost. This Logitech M185 wireless mouse is always a handy addition for less than 11 dollars; you can connect it to a laptop, television, or TV box, and it takes up very little space. This Darth Maul Funko POP doll is available for less than $15 with free shipping if you adore Star Wars.

    [ads3]

The Logitech K400 + Wireless Touchpad Keyboard Set costs $28, and it’s perfect for connecting to a Raspberry Pi or a television.

We spent relatively little of the 33 dollars on a pair of Corsair iCUE SP140 RGB PRO fans, but you will be able to add a beautiful touch of color to your PC. It’s sometimes preferable to play PC games with a Gamepad. The Krom Khensu Gamepad is a wireless gamepad that costs $24.

    [ads4]

    A Gift for all budgets

Indeed, some of the presents we’ve suggested are appropriate for your budget and the recipient’s preferences. Aside from this, a slew of additional gifts can be helpful, whether it’s a lower price or a thoughtful present.

The most popular extensions and themes for Firefox of 2021

Mozilla Firefox is an application that is not living its best moments, and, what’s more, its golden years are long gone. However, Mozilla’s web browser still has its loyalists, so let’s look at some of the most popular or innovative themes and extensions of 2021.

During the year 2021, 109,508,891 extensions and 17,285,192 themes were installed. These numbers, especially their difference, should not surprise us. Many users tend to leave the aesthetic theme offered by default while trying to personalize the experience, mainly the browsing experience, through the extensions.

    Blockers lead the extension ranking.

The extensions dedicated to blocking content displayed on the web have been the most popular, which should not be the least bit surprised at this point. Adblock Plus has averaged 6,134,231 daily users, while uBlock Origin has averaged 5,011,974 throughout 2021.

Although Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin are usually the most popular solutions for blockers, that doesn’t mean they are the only ones that stand out. Facebook Container, which Mozilla itself developed to put barriers to tracking carried out by the ecosystem of services of the “Zuckerberg universe,” has had 1,740,395 daily users. In contrast, the well-known Ghostery has had an average of 1,167. 938.

The Firefox Extensions website has been visited more than 133 million times. Most of these visits come from China, which is followed, in that order, by the United States, Germany, France, and Russia. Mozilla has highlighted that 60% of Russian Firefox users have installed some extension.

Themes, from what we have been able to verify, are not even half as popular as extensions, which is expected if we consider that customization is not something important for many users, so since the foundation, they have been limited to mention the most popular topic: Matte Black (Red). Without further ado, we show what it looks like in Fedora Linux with GNOME and in Windows 10.

Most Innovative Firefox Extensions of 2021

Mozilla has commented that it has been debugging its recommended extensions program for Firefox to list third parties that meet its highest standards of security, usefulness, and user experience. Apart from what has been mentioned so far, the foundation has published a list of innovative extensions through this program.

    Tab Stash

Are you one of those people who open tabs indiscriminately and, despite being saturated or overwhelmed, do not want to lose them? Tab Stash allows you to save those open tabs that have not been read or want to be kept in temporary bookmarks, which can be treated as easily navigable links or permanently saved in individual or grouped bookmarks. Also, it is compatible with Firefox Sync.

    Stylebot

Stylebot is an extension that allows you to radically alter the appearance of a web page without the need for deep design or programming knowledge. Its features include automatic saving of changes, a “magic editor” to modify and improve readability with a couple of clicks, and provides a CSS code editor for advanced users.

    Sidebar

Derived from the Tree Style Tab, the Sidebar is based on the concept of organizing open tabs in a cascading tree format so that they are “hidden” on the side of the browser. The purpose is to facilitate the management of a large number of tabs. Supports management of containers such as Facebook and multi-accounts for the browser, simple bookmarks with drag and drop support, mouse controls with the right button, snapshots, and color customization.

    Automatic dark

Mozilla has closed its list with automatic dark, which takes care of modifying the theme or colors used by Firefox based on the time of day. In this way, the application can be adapted to offer better readability depending on the time of day.

    Conclusion

As we can see, Firefox still offers exciting things, either through extensions or by introducing new features in the application, such as RLBox and Site Isolation. These two security features have reached version 95 of the browser.

However, and despite the efforts of Mozilla, Firefox has struggled for years not to compete against Chromium (as a technology) and Chrome (as an application), but not to fall into irrelevance. The only strong bastion left to the browser is Linux users, where it remains strong thanks to the conviction of users and that it comes pre-installed in most distributions.

  • The best processors you can buy in 2021

The best processors you can buy in 2021

There is no doubt that one of the essential launches that 2021 has left us has been the Intel Alder Lake-S processors, a generation with which the chip giant has finally managed to return to the right path, and that it has done that the competition between this and AMD is fiercer than ever.

As I have told you on other occasions, this is good for consumers, regardless of “which side” they prefer, and for two reasons that are very easy to understand. If you are a fan of Intel processors, you can now find chips that outperform most AMD Ryzen processors at a very competitive price. On the other hand, they offer excellent performance if you are a fan of AMD processors. The Ryzen 9 5950X is still the most powerful in the market, and little by little, they are falling in price thanks to increasing competition from Intel.

That Intel has succeeded with Alder Lake-S is suitable for everyone. The competition always is because, thanks to it, we can buy higher quality products at reasonable prices. When there is no competition, or when it is insufficient, that balance is broken, and this ends up hurting the user because progress slows down, the quality of new products is not always as good as it should be, and their price ends up being, on top of that, very high.

Indeed, 2021 has not been a good year to buy a graphics card. Still, we have the consolation that, at least, it has been the opposite for the general consumer processor sector, not only because that competition between Intel and AMD has left us a great variety of processors with very high performances, but also because this has made their prices very attractive.

As we are in the final stretch of 2021, I think it is an excellent time to share with you a selection of the best processors that we can buy today. This guide will not only allow you to put everything I have said in the previous paragraphs into perspective, but it will also help you to be clear about which processor best suits your needs and which would be, therefore, the most successful purchase.

    1. Intel Core i3-10105F: Best economic option

Thanks to the evolution that the general consumer processor sector has experienced in recent years, it is possible to find powerful chips at very contained prices today, and the Intel Core i3-10105F is undoubtedly one of the best examples.

This processor has a configuration of four cores and eight threads, which means that it reaches the minimum level to move most of the current games with guarantees. Its IPC is also relatively high, as it uses the Comet Lake-S architecture (based on Skylake), and it is manufactured in 14nm ++ process.

The Intel Core i3-10105F works at a frequency of 3.7 GHz-4.4 GHz, standard and turbo mode has 6 MB of L3 cache, and is compatible with the LGA1200 socket, which means that we can use it with equipped motherboards. With 400 series and 500 series chipsets.

Yes, with this processor, we can play most of the current games with all the guarantees, and we will not have severe problems in those already optimized to work with six cores and twelve threads. Its price is only 99.99 USD, so it is clear that it offers excellent value for what it costs.

    Intel Core i3-10105F Specifications

    • Comet Lake-S architecture in the process of 14 nm ++.
    • Four cores and eight threads at 3.7 GHz-4.4 GHz, normal and turbo mode.
    • Integrated GPU is not functional.
    • 6MB L3 cache.
    • 65-watt TDP. Includes fan.
    • LGA1200 socket (400 or 500 chipsets).
    • It does not support overclocking.

Reasons to choose the Intel Core i3-10105F

    • Excellent single wire performance.
    • It can move eight strings, a minimum recommended for games.
    • It’s economical.
    • Good price-performance value.

    Other interesting options

Within its range, this chip is, without a doubt, the most interesting that we can find right now, since, for less than 110 dollars, it has no rival from AMD, at least at the time of writing this article.

However, within the Intel catalog, we could also opt for the Core i3-10100F, a chip almost identical to the Core i3-10105F and whose only difference is that it works at 3.6 GHz-4.3 GHz. Its price is a little lower, 90 USD.

    2. Intel Core i5-10400F: Best CPU for gaming

One of my favorite processors and one of the most highly recommended for obvious reasons. This chip also uses the Comet Lake-S architecture (with Skylake base). It has a high IPC, and thanks to its configuration of six cores and twelve threads, it is prepared to move optimally any current game and any future title.

In effect, by that, I mean that the Core i5-10400F will be able to move the next-generation games that will arrive when the final transition to PS5 and Xbox Series X-Series takes place. This means that this processor is an excellent investment because It offers excellent value both in the present and future. Above all, it is very economical, since it only costs 163 dollars.

If we accompany it with DDR4 memory at 2,666 MHz, its performance is practically identical to that of a Ryzen 5 3600, a chip that far exceeds 224 dollars. If we mount it with a motherboard that supports RAM at a higher speed, the Intel Core i5-10400F will offer even higher performance.

    [ads1]

In summary, with the Intel Core i5-10400F, we will have more than enough power, both single and multithreaded, to play with all the guarantees “today and tomorrow” and with a minimum investment. The best processor you can buy today for less than 168 dollars.

    Intel Core i5-10400F Specifications

    • Comet Lake-S architecture in the process of 14 nm ++.
    • Six cores and 12 threads at 2.9 GHz-4.3 GHz, normal and turbo mode.
    • Integrated GPU is not functional.
    • 12MB L3 cache.
    • 65-watt TDP. Includes fan.
    • LGA1200 socket (400 chipsets).
    • It does not support overclocking.

Reasons to choose the Intel Core i5-10400F

    • Excellent single wire performance.
    • Six cores and twelve threads recommended levels for present and future games.
    • It’s economical.
    • Excellent price-performance value.

    Other interesting options

On the part of AMD, we do not have any attractive option because the direct rival of the Intel Core i5-10400F, the Ryzen 5 3600, is priced too high (around 280 dollars, although it performs almost at the same level).

However, in the Intel catalog, we have an exciting option, the Core i5-11400F, which also has a configuration of six cores and twelve threads but uses a more advanced architecture and offers slightly higher performance. It is also a bit more expensive, costing 190 dollars (at writing this article).

    3. Intel Core i5-12600K: Best CPU for gaming

It has been, without any doubt, the best of the processors that Intel has launched in its first batch of Alder Lake-S CPUs in price-performance ratio. As I told you in the review we published not long ago, this chip offers fantastic single-wire performance. It is unrivaled in this regard. Thanks to its configuration of six high-performance cores, four high-efficiency cores, and 16 threads in total, it is prepared to move any present and future game optimally.

This sounds great, but what exactly makes the Intel Core i5-12600K? There is no more, its high performance and its reasonable price. This chip easily outperforms the Intel Core i9-11900K and the Ryzen 7 5800X, two processors priced at 620 dollars and 527 dollars, although the latter is available in a temporary offer for 426 dollars. When writing, the Intel Core i5-12600K price is 347 dollars, also on quick offer (403 dollars without a request).

The price difference between the three is noticeable, and it allows us to see that the Intel Core i5-12600K is the cheapest, but it is also the most powerful in games. This has been possible thanks, above all, to the leap that Intel has made to the 10nm process and the introduction of the Golden Cove architecture in high-performance cores, which improves the IPC by up to 19% compared to the previous generation.

The Intel Core i5-12600K is mighty and has an excellent price, but we must also bear in mind that, thanks to its four highly efficient cores, it is prepared to offer a perfect experience if we decide to stream while we play. The four high-efficiency cores will take over that workload, and the six cores and twelve threads will be completely free and can be dedicated to the game.

    [ads2]

    Intel Core i5-12600K Specifications

    • Golden Cove architecture on high-performance cores, and Gracemont on high-efficiency cores.
    • Manufactured on Intel Node 7 (10nm SuperFin).
    • Six high-performance cores and twelve threads at 3.7 GHz-4.9 GHz, regular and turbo mode, and four high-efficiency cores at 2.8 GHz-3.6 GHz, standard and turbo mode.
    • GPU Intel UHD Graphics 770 (Xe Gen12).
    • Supports DDR4 and DDR5 memory.
    • Unlocked multiplier (supports overclocking).
    • 20MB L3 cache.
    • 9.5 MB L2 cache.
    • 125-watt base power.
    • Compatible with LGA 1700 socket and 600 series chipset.

Reasons to choose the Intel Core i5-12600K

    • Top-of-the-range single-wire performance.
    • Six cores and twelve threads are recommended levels for present and future games.
    • Four high-efficiency cores that drive multithreaded performance.
    • Outstanding gaming and streaming performance.
    • It outperforms other much more expensive processors.
    • Balanced price.
    • More efficient than the previous generation.
    • It is integrated into the most advanced platform that exists.

    Other interesting options

We can find other attractive options with lower prices, although we must bear in mind that the performance of these will also be lower. In this sense, the Intel Core i5-11600KF is an excellent alternative since it maintains the configuration of 6 cores and 12 threads, comes with the multiplier unlocked, and is priced at 270 dollars. Its IPC is, however, lower, it lacks the four high-efficiency cores, and its integrated GPU is disabled.

I don’t find any exciting options on the AMD side because the prices are too high. However, if you are a fan of the Sunnyvale giant, the most reasonable offered in this range is the Ryzen 5 5600X, priced at 341 dollars.

    4. Intel Core i7-12700KF: Best price-performance CPU for gaming and productivity

We are facing an absolute beast, so much so that it has little to envy the Intel Core i9-12900K. The Intel Core i7-12700KF maintains the high-performance 8-core, the 16-thread configuration of its bigger brother but reduces the high-efficiency core pool from 8 to 4. This change has a real impact on applications that make heavy use of multitasking, but even in those scenarios, the difference it makes is not too significant.

The Intel Core i7-12700KF offers top-of-the-line single-threaded performance; thanks to the Golden Cove architecture, it is ready to move the most demanding games that will arrive in a few years, and it also has multithreaded performance so good that it is capable of surpassing, in some scenarios, to the Ryzen 9 5900X, a chip that has 12 threads and 24 cores, and which is much more expensive. Intel’s chip is also superior in single-wire and is built into a more advanced platform.

When writing this article, the Ryzen 9 5900X was priced on sale at 594 dollars, while the Intel Core i7-12700KF cost 455 dollars without any offer applied. The latter is superior in multithreading and performs almost on the same level as the AMD chip in multithreading, so it is easy to understand why we say that the Intel Core i7-12700KF is the best processor in its class for gaming and productivity, because it offers a price-performance value superior to its direct and indirect rivals.

The Intel Core i9-12900K, or the “KF” version, the Intel Core i7-12700KF is also a more attractive option because it offers slightly lower performance but maintains its excellent IPC fantastic gaming performance. It is a perfect option for productivity and costs 247 dollars less.

    [ads3]

    Intel Core i7-12700KF Specifications

    • Golden Cove architecture on high-performance cores, and Gracemont on high-efficiency cores.
    • Manufactured on Intel Node 7 (10nm SuperFin).
    • There are eight high-performance cores and sixteen threads at 3.6 GHz-5 GHz, regular and turbo mode, and four high-efficiency cores at 2.7 GHz-3.8 GHz, standard and turbo mode.
    • GPU disabled.
    • Supports DDR4 and DDR5 memory.
    • Unlocked multiplier (supports overclocking).
    • 25MB L3 cache.
    • 12MB L2 cache.
    • 125-watt base power.
    • Compatible with LGA 1700 socket and 600 series chipset.

Reasons to choose the Intel Core i7-12700KF

    • Top-of-the-range single-wire performance.
    • Twelve cores and twenty threads, plenty for gaming and adequate for productivity.
    • Outstanding gaming and streaming performance.
    • Multithreaded performance is similar to the Ryzen 9 5900X, which is considerably more expensive.
    • Reasonable price for what it offers.
    • More efficient than the previous generation.
    • It is integrated into the most advanced platform that exists.

    Other interesting options

The closest in raw performance is the Ryzen 9 5900X. Still, as we have said, this one is quite a bit more expensive and is only slightly more potent in multithreading under specific scenarios, so there is no natural alternative to the Intel Core i7-12700KF other than really worth it, at least within its price range.

Other processors, like the Intel Core i9-11900K or the Intel Core i9-10900K, are also not a good option because they offer inferior performance in every way, and on top of that, they are more expensive than the Intel Core i7-12700KF. This is common in older generation processors, which continue to be marketed with low stock levels.

    5. Ryzen 9 5950X: Best CPU for intensive productivity and gaming

Intel has achieved a perfect position in the market for general consumer processors thanks to two great keys: the low price and good performance of the Comet Lake-S series and the excellent performance, and adjusted price, of the new processor’s Alder Lake-S. However, AMD is still quite competitive and would only have to lower costs to improve its current situation.

Let’s look at the top, at the top of the high-performance processors for general consumption. We find that the Ryzen 9 5950X is still the most powerful on the market and therefore remains the best option for productivity focused on multithreading. Thanks to its configuration of 16 cores and 32 threads and its high IPC, it was very intensive.

    [ads4]

It’s an expensive chip, but it makes up for it by offering fantastic performance. With this processor, we will carry out demanding workloads without giving up excellent single-wire performance, something essential in games.

That nuance is essential because most HEDT (High-Performance Computing) processors prioritize multithreaded performance to the detriment of single-threaded, which makes, in the end, a much less attractive choice than the Ryzen 9 5950X if we want to unify work and leisure.

However, keep in mind that of all the processors that we have listed, the Ryzen 9 5950X is the most powerful. Still, it is also the most expensive and therefore represents a significant investment that we must be sure of making profits. He is prepared to move any present and future game optimally. It has a price of 789.89 euros (on temporary offer).

    Ryzen 9 5950X Specifications

    • Zen architecture three at 7 nm.
    • Sixteen cores and 32 threads at 3.4 GHz-4.9 GHz.
    • No integrated GPU.
    • 64MB L3 cache.
    • 105-watt TDP. Does not include fans.
    • Socket AM4 (B450 chipset or higher).
    • Supports overclocking.

Reasons to choose the Ryzen 9 5950X

    • Very high performance in a single wire.
    • Sixteen cores and 32 threads, plenty for games and very good for productivity.
    • Outstanding performance in leisure and work.
    • Price more adjusted than its HEDT equivalents.
    • More efficient than the previous generation.
    • It is integrated into an advanced platform.
  • M.2 NVMe and SATA SSD: Features and Differences

M.2 NVMe and SATA SSD: Features and Differences

    M.2 port

Desktop and laptop storage systems have changed a lot in recent years. In the past, large, noisy, and slow units increased their capacity over time. Currently, we have much smaller units with different types of buses to reach the incredible speeds that dominate the current market for notebook and desktop PCs, M.2 SSDs. This guide will show you the characteristics and differences of M.2 SATA and NVMe SSD drives.

We will start by counting that it is M.2. The M.2, formerly called NGFF (from Next Gen Form Factor), is a connection for expansion cards included in the most recent desktop or notebook PCs. M.2 cards can be of different sizes. Generally, most miniature cards are expansion cards, such as Wi-Fi cards, while M.2 SSDs are usually of different sizes according to needs.

This M.2 connector can use the PCI Express (NVMe) interface compatible with the latest version depending on the PC model, the SATA 3.0 interface, or even USB 3.0. The M.2 connector can be compatible with any of these interfaces or even 3, which depends on the manufacturer and the type of compatibility that the equipment presents. The M.2 standard is compatible with NVM Express and AHCI that give rise to these PCI Express or SATA interfaces.

The M.2 connector, whether you use a PCI Express or SATA interface, is backward-compatible. Thus, an M.2 PCI Express 4.0 SSD disk can be installed in an M.2 connector with a PCI Express 3.0 bus, and its speed will be limited to the maximum of the bus. You can also connect an M.2 PCI Express 3.0 SSD disk in an M.2 PCI Express 4.0 slot; the unit sets the speed limit.

Let’s see in detail the characteristics of each type of connection available in M.2.

    NVMe connectivity

M.2 NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) drives are the fastest type of memory currently available for home desktop and laptop computers. It is associated with the PCI Express bus and is a type of memory, as its name suggests, non-volatile. We can store data, and it will not be erased, even if it stops receiving current.

With NVMe overload, I / S is reduced compared to older drives as SATA M.2. Thanks to this specification, it is possible to take advantage of the virtues presented by the new storage units composed mainly of memory chips.

These drives are generally cards that use the PCI Express bus. Several sizes are made up of specific length and width, although one is used as a standard size, 2280, 22 corresponds to the width and 80 to the distance. The rest of the usually smaller measures are used in specific devices with a more contained size, such as the Steam Deck. We leave you a table with the different specifications and speeds in MB / s and GB / s, but don’t get confused; use our guide to determine the equivalences between the storage units.

NVMe version PCI Express 4x speed 2x speed 1x speed
    1.1 1.0 / 1.1 1 GB / s 500 MB / s 250 MB / s
    1.2 2.0 / 2.1 2 GB / s 1 GB / s 500 MB / s
    1.3 3.0 3.94 GB / s 1.97 GB / s 985 MB / s
    1.4 4.0 7.88 GB / s 3.94 GB / s 1.97 GB / s
    2.0 5.0 15.76 GB / s 7.88 GB / s 3.94 GB / s

The NVMe has its specification, starting at 1.0 in January 2013, and the latest available as of the date of this guide is 2.0a in July 2021. Each revision is updated to offer existing improvements in technology and adapt to new ones. Units are available and thus can take advantage of their full potential. The NVMe is also tied to the open PCI Express bus reaching higher speeds when the specification is more recent.

The NVMe 1.3 with PCI Express 3.0 bus can reach up to 3500 MB / s. However, the next NVMe 1.4 with PCI Express 4.0 bus goes up to 7000 MB / s or can reach 3500 MB / s using half of the available lanes of PCI Express. This also depends on the lines open on the unit, and there are x1 x2 and x4 units. The x2 teams have two lines that, with a PCI Express 3.0 bus, would be a maximum of 1970 MB / s while x4 the most would be 3940 MB / s, a total of 985 MB / s for each line.

    SATA connectivity

M.2 drives with SATA (Serial ATA) connectivity are older. This was the first bus associated with this type of M.2 drive to replace 2.5-inch SSDs. The SATA interface began in 2001 and has evolved in the same way to adapt to new technologies until it reaches the current and more modern SATA III bus, also called SATA 6, because of the amount of GB / s it can move.

Thus, three types of speeds give a name to this type of bus: SATA 1.5 Gb / s, SATA 3 Gb / s, and SATA 6 Gb / s.

    SATA Maximum speed Bandwidth
    SATAI 150 MB / s 1.5 Gb / s
    SATA II 300 MB / s 3 Gb / s
    SATA III 600 MB / s 6 Gb / s

The M.2 SATA drives support a maximum of 600 MB / s theoretical both in reading and writing, although in reality it hardly passes 560 MB / s, at first they were an ideal solution for computers where it is not possible (or it is complicated ) fit a 2.5-inch form factor drive. An M.2 card with SATA bus was the ideal solution, a small card with the possibility of inserting a large amount of storage without taking up extra space since it even goes directly to the motherboard.

But the SATA standard was built to take advantage of the benefits of mechanical disk drives, and it didn’t have much of a future when it came to flash storage. M.2 SATA drives were used initially but were soon replaced by the first NVMe that used the much faster PCI Express bus.

This is why M.2 drives began to lower their cost, and it is cheaper to find M.2 SATA drives than PCI Express having the same storage capacity. Also, keep in mind that it is an older technology, and M.2 SATA drives are slower than M.2 NVMe drives. Although nowadays they are deprecated for new equipment, and it is more profitable to use an older and cheaper standard NVMe drive.

M.2 NVMe vs. SATA SSD: Which is better?

Units M.2 SATA has become old, and everything is compatible with NVMe. Currently, devices that only have an M.2 connector with a SATA connection are not sold, the PCI Express has been standardized and is included in all boards to connect cards in standard format (such as graphics cards) or in M.2 format, where you can also connect an M.2 SATA.

If you have a somewhat older PC or laptop and want to give it a new life using a mechanical disk drive, you can check if it has an M.2 slot to connect SATA devices. By adding an M.2 SATA drive, you will get a higher speed than your current hard drive that can reach 160 Mb / s compared to the 550 MB / s offered by a SATA 6 Gb / s drive in M.2 format.

In addition, you can take the opportunity to leave your current hard drive as a storage unit. In this way, you can add the space you already had on your existing hard drive to the new M.2 SATA drive. It is advisable to install Windows and boot it from the fastest drive for speed reasons. In this case, you will have to migrate or clone your current installation to the new M.2 SATA disk.

You can also try saving and installing an M.2 SATA drive, even if you have the option to use M.2 NVMe available. However, these days you can also find cheaper M.2 NVMe drives if you use an older generation or two. Remember that the slowest NVMe drive is twice as fast as an M.2 SATA drive. So it is not profitable to install an M.2 SATA drive compared to an M.2 NVMe, in the price they are the same, or you can even find the cheaper M.2 NVMe, and they are all advantages.

    Bus type Maximum speed
    SATAI 150 MB / s
    SATA II 300 MB / s
    SATA III 600 MB / s
    NVMe 1.0 / 1.1 1 GB / s
    NVMe 1.2 2 GB / s
    NVMe 1.3 3.94 GB / s
    NVMe 1.4 7.88 GB / s
    NVMe 2.0 15.76 GB / s

On the other hand, if you are looking for speed and performance, the M.2 NVMe drive is what you will get. The higher the specification, the better result it will give you, but this already depends on the limitation of your hardware. It is not possible to use an M.2 PCI Express 5.0 SSD if your motherboard is PCI Express 4.0 (actually yes, but it will run at 4.0 speed ), and also, the drive with the latest bus will always be more expensive.

In this case, the ideal is to look for an M.2 SSD unit according to your hardware. If you have a PCI Express 3.0 bus, it is better to put an M.2 NVMe SSD with a PCI Express 3.0 bus (the NVMe 1.3) and make sure that it offers the maximum speed since, as we have mentioned before, it can be x1, x2 or x4 and vary the rate being the same bus.

You can also use a faster M.2 NVMe drive for the primary purpose where you have the operating system and programs and use a slower (and cheaper) drive for extra storage. With a smaller capacity unit for Windows and the main programs, the storage unit can be more extensive and slower, with the consequent economic savings without affecting performance .

    Conclusion

In summary, M.2 SATA drives are recommended only if your computer is somewhat older and does not support an M.2 NVMe drive. These are faster and so widespread that previous generations are even cheaper than M.2 SATA. If you want to have the highest speed and performance, you should opt for an NVMe with the latest PCI Express bus. In this way, you will ensure you have the highest reading and writing speed that will give you an advantage in games and the management of your PC.

  • 10 Best Video Conferencing Applications to Stay Connected During Christmas

10 Best Video Conferencing Applications to Stay Connected During Christmas

Omicron, the latest variant of SARS-CoV-2 and the most contagious to date, is wreaking havoc worldwide in the sixth wave of the COVID pandemic. Either as a measure of protection and personal responsibility or to comply with the government’s restrictions, we fear that Christmas in 2021 will have to be as ‘homemade’ as those in 2020 were. Preferable is to stay healthy, and there will be a time in the future to resume physical contact and get vaccinated, although this would give for another type of article that is out of our way.

In any case, there are other ways to stay connected with family and friends. Even if it is virtually. And we talk about video conferencing applications. They have always been used a lot, but in 2020, due to the confinements, they became the most searched, downloaded, and operated group of software. And this year is almost the same, both for family connection and to cover the needs of telework or study at home that the pandemic has forced to maintain.

    Video conferencing applications

If you do not know all the available offers and want to have these applications at hand, we remind you of the ten most interesting for the main desktop and mobile operating systems. All are free, and some are open source and cross-platform.

    video conferencing applications

    1. Jitsi

An exciting project, 100% free, open-source, private, and you do not need registration or installation. Jitsi began its journey as a clone of Microsoft’s Messenger, but with multiprotocol support and with time, its development turned towards the field of Skype-style VoIP solutions. It is one of the most potent proposals for workgroups, although it is available for private users.

It includes features like desktop sharing, presentation playback, collaborative document editing, and, of course, video conferencing with integrated chat and a limit of up to 75 participants. To highlight the audio and video quality (based on the WebRTC standard), its security and its privacy policy are genuinely respectful of privacy. Jitsi Meet works on web browsers (preferably Chrome), iOS and Android mobile platforms, and platforms like Slack.

    2. Zoom

It left behind some security and privacy issues based on updates and continues to be one of the most used video conferencing applications due to the ease of use of its interface, its fun backgrounds, and its scalability for use on multiple devices. It is a complete video conferencing package aimed at business users, offering an attractive free option.

Users with this type of account can host video conferences for up to 100 participants, although meetings of three or more members are limited to 40 minutes. You can upgrade to a paid plan to remove these restrictions or keep the free one that allows you to make phone calls, record video or audio locally, and share screens with other participants. Zoom can be used via the web,  with dedicated applications, browser extensions, and mobile devices using iOS and Android apps.

    3. Google Meet – Duo

Google has replaced Hangouts with Meet, a tool born for educational and business segments, and has reached all users. Any Google user can hold group video conferences of up to 250 participants regardless of their subscription level in the commercial G Suite and G Suite for Education solutions. It is available for iOS, Android, and via web browser on any device.

Google offers other video conferencing applications to enhance Hangouts that never finished exploding. More straightforward and more specialized than Meet, Justin Uberti created Google Duo (responsible for the WebRTC communications standard) and was born as an alternative to FaceTime and everything from messaging services. Google expanded its group calling capacity to 32 participants. It works great (especially on Android), offers excellent streaming quality, and is also available for iOS, Chrome OS, and via the web.

    4. FaceTime

Apple’s communications app is a preferred option for users of the Cupertino firm. It works through a phone number or an Apple ID and allows you to make video or audio calls simultaneously with up to 32 participants. FaceTime is integrated into the list of recent calls in the Phone app and can also be used from the Contacts.

    5. Microsoft Teams – Skype

Microsoft is driving Teams as a unified communication and collaboration platform. The evolution of Skype for Business, its business approach is straightforward as it combines persistent chat, file storage, and collaboration and application integration, especially with the Office suite. But it is also used as a video conferencing application and has free versions for all versions of Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and the web.

Another one available is Skype. Microsoft proprietary software, after acquiring what the best VoIP platform on the market was, allows text, voice, and video communications over the Internet (VoIP), free by voice and video between Skype users from and to anywhere in the world, in addition, to allow special calls to be made at meager cost, between computers and fixed or mobile telephone networks. Works on Windows, macOS, or Linux; Android, Windows Phone, and iOS. It is also compatible with most smart TVs and can be used on consoles like Xbox.

The Skype Meet Now variant allows videoconferences without registering anywhere or downloading and installing any application. All you have to do is enter the Skype Meet Now website and, with one click, generate a link to share with those you want to start a conversation with. They include the possibility of recording calls or sharing the screen with the same limit of participants (50) of the general application.

    6. Cisco Webex

CISCO is a name generally associated with commercial business products, generally out of reach for ordinary users. But it also has solutions like Webex, a robust and accessible option for those looking for introductory video conferencing apps. It allows you to host up to 100 participants in a single call for as long as you want. There are no limits to the number of calls you can make, and with a free account, you get 1GB of cloud storage.

Webex allows users in up to 52 countries to use a standard telephone to join any conference. Participants who wish to use their webcams can choose from a website, dedicated desktop applications, or mobile applications for iPhone and  Android with their screen-sharing features.

    7. Tox

If you are looking for a secure and private alternative that is not part of a company’s business, here is an open-source solution whose forceful definition marks apparent distances from other commercial ones:  «Tox is made by people fed up with the existing options that spy on us, they track us down, censor us and prevent us from innovating.”

You may have a lousy interface or confusing setup, but you don’t. Just install qTox (the full-featured app) or uTox (intended for lighter systems) and start chatting. Tox is entirely free and without ads. It offers secure chats, voice calls, video calls, and unlimited screen sharing and file sharing. Tox has Windows, Mac, and Linux versions and mobile versions for iOS and Android.

    8. FreeConference

Contrary to its name, it is not a free service by default. It’s a premium paid service that offers a decent free option that can come in handy for primary cases. FreeConference only supports up to 5 video conference participants on the free tier. What makes FreeConference shine is its support for up to 1,000 audio participants to call on the phone.

The service also takes a software-free approach to video calling, allowing most users to connect from just a browser. It also offers mobile applications for iPhone and Android, which are open to free users.

    9. Viber

classic option that offers all the standard features, including group chats, video calls, and stickers. If you change devices often, you will appreciate Viber’s transfer feature that allows calls to be moved to a mobile phone.

Viber features public chats (called Communities) that allow you to connect with others if you don’t have friends to message, and it has games built-in if you want to compete with your friends. Viber doesn’t stand out for any particular reason, but it’s a solid app. To use it on the desktop, you will first need to sign in on your mobile phone to sync the account.

    10. Whatsapp – Telegram – Line

We leave the solutions of three great instant messaging applications for last. Although they are not the best video conferencing applications, they also offer these functions. They will indeed be used massively due to their versatility, ease of use, and because they are installed in hundreds of millions of devices. You know them well, and they work directly on messaging clients, including video calls, voice calls, and text messages.

For Line is another well-known messenger (albeit widely used in Asia) that allows you to easily keep up with friends and family. Offers free video calls, voice calls, and text messages for groups. Also, thousands of animated stickers, although most are paid through in-app purchases.

  • Beelink SER3 – Micro-PC with AMD Ryzen 7 3750H APU Review

    Beelink SER3 – Micro-PC with AMD Ryzen 7 3750H APU Review

If you do not use the PC to play, but if you use office automation and multimedia, equipment such as the Beelink SER3 is a success since they combine an ultra-compact format with more than enough power for both functions, even for some simple games.

Let’s see to begin the technical specifications of the Beelink SER3 barebone:

    Beelink SER3
    Chassis 126 x 113 x 40 mm (length, width, height) / 0.57 liters
    Active dissipation

    2 x USB 3.0
    2 x HDMI
    Power
    Feeding 19V / 3A transformer
Operating system Includes Windows 10 (upgradeable to 11)

Before starting the review, we want to thank Beelink for giving us the Beelink SER3 barebone analysis.

    Packaging and Accessories

The Beelink SER3 comes to us in a black cardboard box that shows us its main specifications on the back and two QR codes that send us to an installation tutorial and the forum for doubts.

Inside, it is well protected by the packaging itself and is accompanied by the manual, the current transformer of 19V / 3A, an HDMI cable of 1 meter and another of 20 cm, making it perfect the latter if we choose to use the plate metal that allows it to be placed behind a monitor, on the VESA mount.

    Beelink SER3

Once we have the Beelink SER3 in our hands, we are faced with an ultra-compact device in a black metallic chassis that offers dimensions of only 126 x 113 x 40 mm (length, width, height) so it cubes 0.57 liters. The top grill lets in hot air thanks to a built-in fan that helps keep system temperatures at bay.

We find a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a USB-C that allows both the connection of peripherals and the video output on its front. It also has a TRRS jack connector for headphones and a microphone, a power button, and a small recessed button to reset the BIOS if necessary.

On the backside, we find the air outlet of the internal aluminum finned radiator and the rest of the connectivity. In addition to the power connector, we have 2 HDMI 1.4 video outputs, another 2 USB 3.0 ports, and an RJ-45 connector that gives it Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. This is complemented by the WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 4.0 connection.

By removing four screws from the base, we can access the interior of the Beelink SER3, which has a tray for 2.5-inch drives in the lid itself, an M.2 slot occupied by an SSD that we will talk about later, and 2 DDR4 slots in SO-DIMM format for RAM.

    Hardware and Performance

We begin to list the hardware included in the compact Beelink SER3 with its AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor, a mid-range model from a few years ago with four cores and eight threads at frequencies that start at 2.3 GHz and reach the 4.0 GHz. Its TDP is 35W, perfect to be refrigerated with solvency in such compact equipment.

This is accompanied by 8/16 GB memory DDR4 to 2400 MHz, which offers a bandwidth around 30 GB / s, although very substantial latencies around 120 ns.

    Cinebench Single Wire
    Cinebench Multi Wire

It should be noted that this combination offers a reasonably simple performance, as the terminology of its processor must not fool us.

The processor itself has integrated graphics AMD Radeon RX Vega October to 1400 MHz, commonly known as an APU. This allows you to play 4K video without any problems, although, in games, they do not offer excellent performance, having to go down to 720p for these to at least work. For modern titles, it is insufficient.

    Lower 720p Games

In addition, it has an SSD in M.2 NVMe format of 256/512 GB signed by Gsemi that, as we see below, is around 2 / 1.6 GB / s of sequential read / write, figures that are more than correct for its task. The inclusion of an SSD allows the performance of the equipment to be notably higher than it would have with a mechanical disk, being even more critical the significant improvement in terms of random access compared to the one offered by these.

Finally, we must talk about its consumption and sound, the first being around 40W, a really low figure for such a functional team. On the other hand, the loudness at rest is practically zero, while it is around 42 dB at the entire performance, which is not annoying.

    Conclusion

The Beelink SER3 is an excellent HTPC, as it offers good performance for multimedia and office tasks in an ultra-compact format of only 0.57 liters of volume. Indeed, its power does not give to play any modern title, but to classics or emulators of equally classic consoles. Its active dissipation keeps temperatures at bay without being annoying, while the possibility of adding a 2.5-inch drive gives it just the suitable expansion capacity, in the most exciting aspect. It also offers excellent connectivity with WiFi 5, GbE, multiple ports USB 3.0, and 2 HDMI outputs, placing it behind a screen compatible with VESA support.

We can find the Beelink SER3 for sale in stores such as Geekbuying for about $579.99 in the analyzed 16/512 GB version, with an 8/256 GB version for about €450. It is a reasonable price if we are looking for an ultra-compact PC, although we can find a desktop with greater expansion capacity for the same price. It will already depend on individual needs, but it is an option to consider.

    Main advantages
    + Ultra-compact chassis, only 0.57 liters
+ Enough power for smooth multimedia and office tasks
    + Extra 2.5-inch bay
    + Very controlled loudness
    + 2 HDMI video outputs
    + 4 x USB 3.0 + USB-C
    + Wi-Fi 5 + GbE
    + VESA mount compatible
    + Windows 10 upgradeable to Windows 11
    Negative Aspects
Many cheaper options, with not much less performance
    Minimal gaming performance

  • Oppo Find N: folding smartphone with 7.1 + 5.49-inch screen

Oppo Find N: folding smartphone with 7.1 + 5.49-inch screen

Oppo announced its entry into the foldable smartphone market with the Oppo Find N, which offers an internal 7.1-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1792 x 1920 pixels with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz and brightness maximum of 1000 nits, while the external display is a 5.49-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 1972 x 988 pixels @ 60 Hz protected from the Gorilla Glass Victus laminate.

Regarding the folding aspect, it is stated that the AMOLED screen is fixed on a 12-layer ‘Serene’ panel that uses the so-called ‘Flexion Ultra Thin Glass’ of 0.03mm thickness to be more flexible than the options of the competition (0.6mm), and promising a lifespan of at least 200,000 screen displays.

Mechanism-wise, the flex hinge is a complicated timepiece with 136 components, accomplishing two essential tasks. First, it folds the teardrop-shaped screen at the crease, making the crease 80% less noticeable. Second, it eliminates the wedge-shaped gap between the two halves when the phone is folded, something that the main booster of foldable phones, Samsung, cannot boast.

The hinge also allows something called FlexForm Mode. The hinge can hold the two halves at any angle between 50º and 120º, allowing the phone to act as its tripod for long video calls or time-lapse photography.

    Oppo Find N camera

At the hardware level, the Oppo Find N is not surprising. It uses the Snapdragon 888 SoC along with 12 GB of LPDDR5 memory, 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a 4500 mAh capacity battery with 33W fast charging and wireless charging. 15W offers a triple rear camera in the form of a Sony IMX766, Sony IMX481, and Samsung S5K3M5 50 + 16 + 13-megapixel sensor in the form of the primary sensor, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto lens.

The terminal goes on sale in China at an exchange price of 1214 USD for the 8GB / 256GB version, while the top-of-the-range model does so at 1240 euros, a fee in Europe will be significantly higher.

  • Honor X30 is presented with one of the largest screens in the mid-range

Honor X30 is presented with one of the largest screens in the mid-range

Closing its first full year outside the Huawei environment, Honor has just presented its latest smartphone of this 2021, the Honor X30, which arrives as one of the best representatives of the main focus of this company, with a mid-range device with small details. That will stand out from other terminals and give it a little extra appeal to devices of more extensive ranges.

    Specifications Honor X30

And it is that this time Honor has opted for the inclusion of a substantial 6.81-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD + resolution and high refresh rate up to 120Hz, which makes the most of the front space with the almost complete elimination of the side and top bezels and the inclusion of a small hole for its front camera.

Operating system Android 11 customized with Magic UI 5.0 layer
Screen 6.81-inch 120Hz IPS LCD screen
    Resolution FullHD +: 2376 x 1080 pixels
    Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G
Memory 6 or 8 GB of RAM
Storage 128 or 256 GB of storage
    Frontal camera 16 MP
    Rear camera Quadruple configuration:
    · 48 MP
    · 2 MP depth
    · 2 MP macro
    Connectivity Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, Dual-SIM, NFC, USB-C
Battery 4,800 mAh with 66W fast charge
    Dimensions 166.07 x 75.78 x 8.05 mm
    Weight 189 grams

Thus, as we said, the Honor X30 will continue to be oriented towards the mid-range, equipping a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor, one of the latest additions of 5G to the mid-range presented this year; which will be accompanied by configurations of up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Specifications will continue to shine with its 4,800 mAh battery pack, backed by a powerful 66W fast charging system, which is a figure worthy of the high range.

On the other hand, its photographic section is somewhat more modest, although equally sufficient, with a 48-megapixel primary camera and two 2-megapixel secondary sensors for macro and depth, completed by the aforementioned front selfie camera, with a 16-megapixel sensor.

    Availability and price

At the moment, the Honor X30 has only been presented in China under a base price that will start at 1499 yuan for the 6 + 128 GB model (approximately 210 euros), without knowing for the moment its arrival date or availability to the rest of the world. International markets. And is that although the presence of a 5G processor would make it difficult to enter the United States, for the moment, Honor is still a relatively established brand within Europe.

  • Samsung to Unveil New Galaxy S21 FE at CES Conference Announced for Jan 4

Samsung to Unveil New Galaxy S21 FE at CES Conference Announced for Jan 4

More presentations are known for CES 2022 that will begin on January 4 . Samsung has also announced that it will give its conference on the same opening day that coincides with the announcements from Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA. Samsung will not introduce new processors or graphics for PC, but it is expected to announce the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S21 FE this day.

  • Will 2022 be the year of folding smartphones?

Will 2022 be the year of folding smartphones?

Those who know me know that folding smartphones and any other proposal that breaks the form factor seem fine to start with. Thus, the launches that I have celebrated the most this year have been the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, in the same way as last year’s LG proposal with the LG WING, which was to be the first step of its ambitious Explorer project, which finally came to nothing with LG’s exit from the smartphone market.

With the exit of LG from the market, for a time, it seemed that experimentation in this regard had been, almost exclusively, in the hands of Samsung. And yes, we have indeed been talking about a hypothetical and highly rumored folding iPhone for years, but the years go by, and we still do not know anything. Maybe in 2022? Maybe, but that, just perhaps. Until now, folding smartphones seemed like a tremendously complex pool, which only Samsung had dared to jump into.

However, and as we have learned this week, it is confirmed that Oppo has also decided to cheer up with its previously leaked Oppo Find N and that it has already been announced and will be presented next week. Although their arrival dates to the market are yet to be confirmed, we will say goodbye to 2021 with a new option in this regard, which already invites us to think that folding smartphones do have a future.

But this is nothing compared to what 2022 could prepare us. And, as we can read in MSPowerUser, next year will bring us at least one manufacturer that renews its bet in this market, and another that debuts in the same with a proposal that could be different.

The first is, surely you have already imagined it, Huawei, which would take over from the Huawei Mate X2 presented earlier this year. According to the leaks, the new Huawei terminal would be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold3. Although Huawei’s situation has suffered due to its problems with the US administration, the company makes exciting proposals, which is much appreciated.

As for the second company to join folding smartphones, we are talking about Vivo, and the leak offers a very ambiguous clue, stating that it will have a more prominent fold. What do you mean? I would love to know, but I admit it has caught me out of the game. However, if Vivo deviates from the model proposed by the Samsung model, that may mean even more novelty for the field of folding smartphones.

And this is what we know when 2021 is not over yet. More folding smartphones may be announced throughout 2022, which will pose a problem for software developers, who will have to find a way to adapt to new factors in form, but that promises a paradigm shift that I have been waiting for a long time.
