New emojis are on their way to your phone and PC.
The emoji library grows by adding new drawing signs and images every year. Some of the contenders for next year’s contest have been released by the Unicode Consortium.
The designers’ ingenuity seems limitless in new emojis, the more feelings and notions they try to portray with these symbols. The nonprofit Unicode Consortium, which is hosting the discussion, has presented some new ideas, but it is not yet clear whether all of them will be adopted by users.
A heart with two new color possibilities, a shaking face (marked by the term earthquake, among other things), and a hand with an apparent refusal are among the contenders for next year. The ginger, the fan, and the rumba, as an instrument, and wifi, i.e., wireless, all appear as instruments.
When the new emoticons become official, both Apple and Google will need to add them to respective platforms and won’t do so simultaneously (creating some confusion). With the release of Unicode 15.0 in September 2022, approved emoticons for the following year will likely be issued.
