  • 3,000 Facebook accounts deleted for spreading false news about vaccines

3,000 Facebook accounts deleted for spreading false news about vaccines

Facebook claims that its action has reduced the uncertainty of vaccinations by about 50 percent in the United States alone.

Since the coronavirus pandemic, Facebook has taken a much stricter stance against posts containing falsehoods about a health topic. But how much this is the case has now been quantified in a new report: according to the company, more than 20 million content was deleted between the start of the pandemic and June this year, and more than 190 million warning signs were issued.

Facebook also detailed that 3,000 accounts had been removed from the site since the outbreak began in 2020 because of the spread of highly disinformation material about vaccines. That number may not seem like much, but according to Engadget, research recently found that the vast majority of vaccine fake news is linked to only a few super-distributors. One of them was recently named.

Facebook also shared that the posts removed were varied in a phone conversation with journalists. Some of them, for example, claimed that the coronavirus vaccine makes the skin magnetic. This is, by the way, one of the most popular fake news stories, even though it has been proven in several cases that the theory has no scientific basis whatsoever.

According to Facebook, it’s not uncommon for fake news distributors to use coded language to hide their communications on the site.

  • Nearly $150 million stolen using an Apple Watch

Nearly $150 million stolen using an Apple Watch

The gang put the watch in a drug runner’s car to track where he was going. They found a large amount of cash on him.

The Apple Watch smartwatch has helped the wearer in several situations, including quickly alerting paramedics. This time, we heard about a very different story: an American band of robbers allegedly used this gadget to steal half a million dollars.

“The whole point of the story,” according to a summary from Apple Insider“is that the gang caught the attention of a drug runner who was suspected of carrying a lot of money. The criminals decided to follow the person for which apple’s watch was used: one of the gang members hid the device under the bumper of the courier’s car, which then sent signals about his whereabouts.

The company tracked down the car and the courier who drove them to the parking lot of a Connecticut hotel. There was reportedly a severe scuffle, during which the gang obtained several of the man’s belongings, including a critical card for a hotel room. Using the logo on it, they quickly identified which hotel it was, and when they entered the room, they found a lot of cash.

The criminals headed to Middletown, New York, to distribute the loot, but were taken into police custody. It is not clear exactly where or how the authorities intervened, but it is clear that all members of Monday’s gang have been indicted. In his report, the prosecutor specifically stated that the Apple Watch used for tracking played an essential role in implementing the plan.

The band of robbers has been in place since 2019.

  • Be careful what links you click on, phishers attack the most popular messenger apps

Be careful what links you click on, phishers attack the most popular messenger apps

It’s a good idea to choose what kind of messenger a user installs on their device because phishers also looked at the most popular ones.

Kaspersky Internet Security for Android users voluntarily provided (anonymous) data to see which messaging apps were most prevalent among phishers. According to the company, most of the malicious links detected between December 2020 and May 2021 were sent via WhatsApp (84.9%), with Telegram taking second place (5.7%). Viber was pushed into third place (with a share of 4.9%), while Hangouts came in fourth (the latter did not even reach one percent).

Russia (46%), Brazil (15%), and India (7%) suffered the highest number of phishing attacks. Kaspersky recorded 480 attack-related sightings worldwide and on average per day.

According to one study, users had 20 percent more messaging apps last year, making them the most popular communication tool. Surveys also show that messengers were used by 2.7 billion people worldwide in 2020, and this number is expected to increase to 3.1 billion by 2023. That’s almost 40 percent of the world’s population. Kaspersky has detected the most malicious links in WhatsApp, which they believe is due to the popularity of the messenger. The most significant proportion of such messages was seen in Russia (42%), Brazil (17%), and India (7%). According to Kaspersky, Telegram had the fewest such cases, although even in geographical areas similar to WhatsApp.

Viber and Hangouts recorded the fewest cases. According to the company, the main difference between the two is regional representation. In the case of Viber, the highest number of sightings was recorded mainly in Russia (89%) and the CIS states (Ukraine 5% and Belarus 2%). For Hangouts, most sightings occurred in the USA (39%) and France (39%). For WhatsApp, Brazil (177) and India (158) were at the forefront of phishing attacks per user. At the same time, for Viber and Telegram, Russian users became the number one in terms of the number of sightings compared to other countries (Viber: 305 sightings, Telegram: 79 sightings).

This is partly because these applications are extremely popular with users and partly because the built-in features of the applications are suitable for carrying out attacks. It is often difficult to determine whether the attack is phishing since the difference can be just one character or one small error. The combination of vigilance and anti-phishing technologies is a reliable tool in the fight against phishing through messaging apps.”

One way to reduce risks is that the user neither shares nor clicks suspicious links.

High-resolution satellite images show kabul airport chaos

On Monday, Maxar Technologies, a company based in the United States, released many satellite photographs of the situation at Kabul Airport.

On Monday afternoon, the American company Maxar Technologies sent several satellite photographs on its Twitter feed. According to high-resolution footage, the scenario at Kabul airport in Afghanistan and its highways was chaotic.

Someone pointed out in the comments that the Afghans attempting to flee are likely standing in an unusual pattern at the airport. Some military aircraft and helicopters in the Maxar are most likely retouching the photograph.

On Monday, traffic at Kabul airport was halted due to the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. The runway had been overwhelmed by thousands of people attempting to exit the country. On Tuesday, the evacuation was resumed.

Several dramatic videos from the airport surfaced, including one showing frantic Kabul residents hanging to a take-off plane and crashing – a figure that has been questioned.

In recent years, a group of 20 Afghan females at the airport stood out for their engineering abilities. It’s unknown whether they were able to leave the country.

Afghan robot-building girls are desperately attempting to flee the country.

Afghan Dreamers is a robotics development team of girls aged 12 to 18. However, their lives in Afghanistan may be jeopardized due to the Taliban’s occupation.

According to CBC News in Canada, the Afghan development team was frantically trying to leave Afghanistan by developing a ventilator for coronavirus patients out of automobile components. The team’s members were last in the worldwide news in May 2020.

Afghan Dreamers, a robotics team of girls aged 12 to 18, creates and builds robots. According to human rights lawyer Kimberley Motley, the girls still want to learn, and they see their future in Afghanistan, but they are terrified and don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Motley wants the Canadian government to assist them in obtaining refugee status and leaving the country.

The 20-member squad has been covered frequently in Western media, where they have been depicted as Afghanistan’s future leaders. It has served as a great illustration of how much the country has changed in terms of women’s equality since the entrance of the US troops. The country’s future has been questioned due to the United States’ withdrawal and the Taliban’s takeover.

The Taliban, according to Motley, go door to door, forcing young girls to marry. Members of the development team, according to the lawyer, may face the same fate.

The girls have already visited Canada and won a robotics competition there. In 2018, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated them personally, and Motley stated that they would be safe in the country.

It’s unclear where Afghan dreamers are right now. According to a BBC correspondent on Twitter, they were spotted at Kabul airport.

  • Nanoleaf Aurora – One of the best Smart Design lamps in the world

Nanoleaf Aurora – One of the best Smart Design lamps in the world

Sometime in early summer, I got the Aurora product from Nanoleaf, a bright lamp. It’s not just any! We can create the look ourselves, making it unique and displaying an “infinite” amount of color with brutal brightness and speed.

I’ve been eyeing Aurora for a long time because it’s highly spectacular, but it’s not a cheap product. In my opinion, whoever buys it will not be disappointed, and lately, we have received many updates that give us even more options to use the lamp. Watch the video below to see what it is all about, and then I’ll show you in detail about the Aurora.

As you can see, we can build the Aurora in almost any shape thanks to its condition. These elements are connected and thus form a complete light source that we invent. The end of the triangles led lamps to illuminate the entire matte surface. Not incidentally, they have a considerable brightness- so I usually only use it at 20 30%.

The assembly is straightforward. We attach the panels and then put them on the wall with double-sided glue. There’s only one cable that will stick out at the bottom, so it’s a good idea to put it over some furniture to hide it, too. After that, you have to turn on and start the app.

    Software

I’ve learned many times that hardware alone is scarce for a product, no matter how good or cheap it may be. The company’s software and its update and support always bring the “Canaan.” Nanoleaf won’t be left behind in this. You can also buy many services, cloud-stored so-called scenes, and add-ons for Aurora.

  • New film site Nestflix launched

    New film site Nestflix launched

The new database, modeled on popular streaming service Netflix, features some of the best-known movies from a very different side.

Her fascination with motion pictures persuaded Lynn Fisher to launch a new page. Still, for a very different reason: this interface commemorates fictional works found in real jobs such as films, series, and soap operas.

The English term nested (embedded) used for these fiction films and the name of the popular streaming service Netflix gave birth to the new site, Nestflix.

The interface does not allow you to look at the shows, but the datasheets of the works contain which original films you can find, who the director is, and who the characters are, and some frames can be browsed freely.

One of the classic pieces of the site is The Dirty Soul Angels, played out in a scene from Shivers, Burglars to scare off the burglars. But the premieres include the film premiere parodies of the action-comedy Tropical Storm and the infamous Brigantyk black-and-white war film The Nation, directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Although the database is constantly expanding, most fictitious content of overseas works is still in the majority. Interestingly, one of the iconic Hungarian nested, Gábor Herendi, who recorded The Sinful City appearing in the movie Something America, will soon be directing it in real life.

  • This way you can charge your phone up to 1500 times, your battery will still be okay

This way you can charge your phone up to 1500 times, your battery will still be okay

Oppo introduced a new generation of intelligent, fast charging technology. The company’s researchers are primarily looking at how new materials, modern charging architectures and artificial intelligence-based algorithms can be used to enhance charging performance and make charging batteries even safer.

Oppo claims its latest developments can effectively increase charging speeds while a new safety system prevents battery damage. The system consists of five components: improved fuses, gallium nitride (GaN) switches, a special two-cell battery, a safety chip, and composite pantographs for batteries.

In the event of low impedance fuse overload or other symptoms in flash charge, it immediately disconnects the battery from the power supply to physically protect it from damage. The improved fuse has a lower internal resistance, which makes the charging system even safer, the company said in a statement.

For the first time, Oppo uses gallium nitride (GaN) switches on its smartphones, which perform the same function in a smaller area as conventional silicon switches (MOSFET) and reduce heat production, improving charging efficiency and reliability.

Two-cell batteries allow for a non-fluctuation power supply while reducing voltage and heat generation.

The smart chip of a battery that uses AI algorithms can detect voltage outages in real-time. If the battery’s voltage drop is caused by damage, the phone will alert the user and initiate additional preventive safety measures.

Oppo’s new safety battery features a composite pantograph, replacing typical aluminium-only solutions. The five-layer pantograph with a “sandwich” structure is coated with additional protective material that protects the battery from short circuits caused by external damage. According to Oppo Lab test results, the new battery performs 100 per cent successfully in puncture and impact tests.

    Intelligent charging, extreme conditions

The company said that artificial intelligence could improve battery performance in several areas, both by increasing battery life and, in some cases, by achieving better charging speeds. The new technology, developed by engineers at the Chinese company, can maintain up to 80 per cent of the battery’s original capacity after up to 1,500 charging cycles using the 65W SuperVOOC fast charging.

The new technology allows for a 65W SuperVOOC fast charging speed to reduce charging time by about 20 per cent, making a 4,500 mAh battery chargeable in as much as 30 minutes. The technology is also capable of controlling charging power depending on the battery temperature. As a result, the company promises that users can use their phones while charging without any heat-related inconvenience.

The company’s fast charging technology delivers optimal charging performance even at shallow temperatures: test results show that between -20°C and 10°C, the battery temperature can reach the ideal range in less than a minute, allowing the battery to charge normally.

  • Are you using WhatsApp? You’ll be fine if you change your Phone

Are you using WhatsApp? You’ll be fine if you change your Phone

Previously, it was only at the promised level that WhatsApp data was transferred to other large mobile operating systems. From now on, however, it will gradually become available.

While end-to-end encryption is one of WhatsApp’s most important user-friendly features, it can be a problem if someone switches platforms and transfers their chat history from iOS to Android (or vice versa). The problem is that chats are stored on your device, not in the cloud, precisely because of encryption.

Luckily, the transfer can be done, and as early as April, it was discovered that WhatsApp specialists now owned by Facebook were working on it.

And Samsung’s recent Unpacked event has already made an official announcement: after the tests, the relocation can start live, with a few limitations for now. Although the feature is supposed to be two-way, it is currently only available from iOS to Android, particularly Samsung smartphones. The condition is that your phone has an Android ten or later operating system running. The good news is that chats, previous videos, and voice messages can be transferred.

  • Netflix has started hunting down tricky users

Netflix has started hunting down tricky users

Netflix content varies by country and region for a variety of reasons. However, this does not prevent ingenious users from accessing movies that are not officially available for viewing.

As Übergizmo pointed out, the most suitable solution is the VPN service, which helps users connect to a region they would not otherwise be able to do. And that gives you a look at other Netflix content.

However, the service provider is not happy about this trickery since it bypasses the system. The company, therefore, began to “track down” suspected prohibited individuals to warn and, where appropriate, block them.

However, some people who have not committed anything have also fallen victim to the tightening.

There is no certainty as to why this may have happened, but one possible explanation is that your ISP should contact the cause of this phenomenon. However, the company does not give any tips on what to do if the operator does not know.

  • Cyberdog: Xiaomi is releasing an open source Robot dog

Cyberdog: Xiaomi is releasing an open source Robot dog

Xiaomi, known to us primarily for his smartphones, announced on Tuesday that he is expanding his product range with a completely new “four-legged” battery. The Chinese manufacturer has made an open-source robot dog that can travel independently, carry out orders, or even run backward.

While the Cyberdog is remarkably similar in appearance to Boston Dynamics Spot’s robot dog, their similarities end there pretty much. Xiaomi’s mechanical dog is based on much more minor, different hardware, and its software is based on open source components – and it’s cheaper to buy.

Xiaomi Cyberdog’s rain is powered by NVIDIA’jetson Xavier NX platform, centered on a chip with 48 Tensor cores to support artificial intelligence processing. At the same time, the robot dog also serves additional processors in the company of 11 precision sensors and a dual, haptic, depth-sensing camera system.

    Xiaomi Cyberdog specifications

Thanks to the latter, Xiaomi can map and navigate its surroundings in real-time, but recognizing people’s faces and perceiving their posture, and interpreting the commands they say orally is no problem for them either. In addition, the structure can be controlled from a smartphone application, and it is planned that a bunch of add-on modules will be available.

    Xiaomi Cyberdog

Xiaomi is currently releasing only a limited number of Cyberdogs, of which a total of 1,000 copies are known to the companies at 10,000 techniques per piece, which is approx 1,600 USD. At the same time, the manufacturer promises further improvements to the robot dog and even the launch of an open-source community and lab where developers will be able to share their solutions to the structure.

Are you using Chrome? Check out the new features

Google has also put together some useful new features for Chrome and desktop users.

Users may want to look at the Chrome browser from time to time, as Google has introduced several small new features to the program released for Android and desktops.

One of these is what users of the android app can enjoy: it will be easier to set what data a website can access. All you have to do is tap the padlock icon in the browser’s title bar and select Permissions. Once you have that, you can set what we give access to and what we don’t.

Google also promises a feature in the future that will prevent a particular website from being included in your browsing history.

Another beneficial innovation is also the safety of users. You will be able to type various text commands in your browser’s address bar to make certain settings faster and easier. For example, entering delete history will give you a button to instantly clear your browsing history and a safety check to check how safe your passwords are, for example. You can try the latter in the desktop version of the browser.

In our experience, what’s new hasn’t arrived in either mobile or desktop Chrome yet. Google promises to do this in the coming weeks, so you may want to check back from time to time to see if any updates are already available. For the Android version, you can do this by clicking this link, and in the browser for computers, you need to select Help – About Google Chrome.

  • Theoretical physics now rests on the question: are there extraterrestrials?

Theoretical physics now rests on the question: are there extraterrestrials?

According to some researchers, the possibility of intelligent beings still observing the Earth and its inhabitants today, for example, through secret satellites, can no longer be ruled out. Now a team has come together trying to find answers.

An international research team has been set up under the leadership of one of the best-known theoretical physicists, Avi Loeb, and not for any reason: scientists will examine whether there are technologically advanced extraterrestrials and, if so, whether they have traces that we may have detectable.

According to Live Science, Loeb also revealed at a press conference that the research would be conducted using telescopes and scientific spacecraft operating worldwide. Experts will review and analyze the available data to find a clue that could indicate an extraterrestrial civilization.

Illustration of Oumuamua © European Southern Observatory

The research relies heavily on a cosmic object called Oumuamua, which passed Earth in 2017, and its size and shape excited several astronomers. A handful of scientists then concluded that the comet/asteroid is not what they say but perhaps a space vehicle. Researchers also added at the time that Oumuamua was the first object to come into the Solar System from interstellar space, at least as far as we know.

The research, rooted in Loeb and renamed the Galileo Project, begins with the accession of several long-established institutions. Researchers from Princeton University, Caltech University of Technology (Caltech), Cambridge University in England, and Stockholm University, among others, are also involved in the work. The team of scientists will also study unidentified flying objects.
